New Story: The Adjusters #29

Here is June's installment of The Adjusters, “The Fall of the House of Cusker”, wherein everything comes to a head.

As usual, comments welcome.

I'll also remind you that we have a Speculation Thread available for discussion. (A thread which I read but do not comment on.)

The Adjusters #29 - The Fall of the House of Cusker

When Daniel came to, three things immediately jumped at him. First,
his body felt like one massive bruise, just like that time as he kid
when he had jammed a fork into an electrical socket. Second, he was
sitting in a chair with his wrists tied behind him and a gag in his
mouth. Third, he was not alone.

"Hey man, he's coming to..."

Daniel focused his gaze on the voice with some difficulty. In front of
him stood the man with the Green Arrow costume--what was it that
Jackson had called him, Brad?--and he looked nervous. Jackson. Daniel
turned his head and glanced to his right, wincing as he did so, and he
saw that Jackson was sitting in a chair next to his, bound and gagged
as well. There was blood matting the hair on the back of his head. And
he was awake.

Beyond Jackson, completing a rough semicircle with their own chairs,
were Kevin Cusker, as well as the blond man with the pale blue eyes
that Daniel had seen with Serena earlier standing over an
incapacitated Jackson. Both were tied up and gagged like he and
Jackson were. What's going on here? Daniel wondered. The blond man had
an angry-looking shiner on his eye and his lower lip was bloody. Kevin
looked dazed, but otherwise unharmed.

Daniel was trying to catch Jackson's eye to reassure himself that the
young man was okay when Biff circled around his chair. He had ditched
most of his Jabba costume, retaining only the lizard-skin tights. Jenn
was hanging on to his arm, caressing it with her hand, her oiled body
still exposed by her blue bra and her short metallic blue skirt that
fit her ass like a glove. She had also taken off her Bobba Fett
helmet, and her long dark hair were cascading down her back.

Next month: “Aftermath”.

  1. Again, dreadfully sorry for the delay. Aside from everything else, this was a pain to edit, and I'm still not entirely happy with bits of it... Nevertheless: enjoy! I'm off to nap now.

  2. An interesting development sir. I thought that Biff might get away scott free but it seems you've disposed of him now. Not really surprised since he had become a stale character being 2 dimensional as he was. The other characters are good though, wondering what Daniel will get to salvage at the end of all of this.

Yeah, Biff was a tough one to round off. Then again, he lived his life pretty much two dimensional...

  3. Hi.

Coupled with the previous chapter(s) this has the feeling of spring cleaning. Out with the old ...
Last month you killed Radhu, this month Kevin, Biff and Jackson. You cleaned out most of the secondary male characters and the more prominent antagonists of the last two books.
So what now? Obviously, all of the DIK girls are now with agent Shawbanks and her superiors, the elusive company probably. Cindy met with a new character, possibly some underground, freedom fighter type opposing the company. And Jenn, either also caught by the company or more probable off to Biff's friends were she will suffer more at their hands and due to Biff's failsafe programming. Poor girl.
So what now? Daniel will have to start new. The girls are gone, his support is gone and his enemies also (at least those he knew of). His next steps will lead him to uncover the new antagonists and I have a feeling Sam o'Neill and Cindy will play a major role in that.

    1. Spring cleaning—I like that. It does feel that way, doesn't it?

Here's hoping I still have a few surprises for your Astardis. And if not, at least a curve ball!

And yeah, we'll have to deal with that failsafe programming, somehow...

    2. You don't need hope. :) Just stay off the stereotypical path that is too common.
For a while I truely suspected some fairytale ending. Radhu gets Serena, Jackson with Kyra and Daniel off into the setting sun with Jen on his arm.
So obviously, Radhu's death totally blindsided me and though I suspected Kevin and Biff's demise (somehow this month's title was some minor clue), Jackson caught me a bit off guard, too. In retrospective, it shouldn't have. :)

So, keep up and, if possible, please stay away from stuff like more mutilations, rape or scat. Thanks.

    3. I'm not sure I'll be able to stay off all stereotypical paths, if only because some of those I do want to explore. But when I'm down one of those I will try to keep things fresh. And I don't foresee any more mutilations, nor rape or scat. The rest of the story should stay in the same tonal range as the first two books.

  4. danny123-what a way to end and a great cliffhanger. Will have to reread to give my comments. Now I cannot wait for the next installment.

  5. Just don't do a Robert fucking Jordan on us and die before the series is finished! Have a contingency plan ... It's just too good to keep us unfulfilled.

    1. I have of course no plans to pull a Robert Jordan on anyone, but then again, who ever is? You know, a contingency plan may not be a bad idea...
