Writing Journal: Nothing much to report. Finishing up the first part of what I've been hacking on for the past month, which if everything goes according to plan—that is, if I can get my act together and revise it—should start seeing the light of day before the end of the month. And then, The Adjusters #32.
I have not been reading a lot lately, but I came across a long long story on Djian Understories which is worth a look—I'm only halfway through, but it's one of my favorite so far this year. It's by Velvetglove, called Best Enjoyed Cold: “A ‘Rape and Revenge’ Thriller in nine Parts.” As the description—short on details—says, a rape-and-revenge thriller. Revenge via rape is an old trope, of course, but Velvetglove spins a dark tale of involved payback that goes beyond the usual ‘I'm gonna take yo girl out back and bone her.’ It's heavy on the psychological cruelty. Be warned. But if it's your cup of tea, go down and go deep. There are some impressively good scenes of abuse in there.
Velvetglove's tale reminded me a much older tale that I've ever only known as Arms, the story of an arms dealer who attempts to double-cross, in a sense, a rich client, and who gets punished by being forced to watch his family being used and abused. Call me sick—others have—but I've always just loved the last scene with Stephanie. (I seem to recall there being more chapters to the story, but I'm not able to retrace them. Also, BDSM Library credits the story to one Nic Romanschak, but I don't know if that's true. If you have updated info, or know of the longer story, please drop me a comment.)
