New Story: The Adjusters #27

Here is April's installment of The Adjusters, “Prelude to a Party”, wherein several people make plans for the great DIK-Bash.

As usual, comments welcome.

I'll also remind you that we have a Speculation Thread available for discussion. (A thread which I read but do not comment on.)

The Adjusters #27 - Prelude to a Party

"So, did it work?" was the first thing Daniel asked Jackson when the
latter entered the apartment.

Cindy looked up over Radhu's shoulder, giving Jackson a nod, before
turning her attention back to the documents that Radhu had extracted
from the Delta Iota Kappa systems and from Doctor Cargyle's
laptop. There was a wealth of information there, although much of it
was either incomprehensible or of no relevance to them. But the two
were finding it fascinating, having been studying the documents for
the last hour, conferring in hushed tones.

Jackson plopped himself down on the couch, and pulled a ticket out of
his pocket. He flashed a smile towards Daniel. "Yup, got it."

Daniel grinned and snatched the ticket from Jackson's hand. A ticket
to DIK-Bash, held later tonight, at the Delta Iota Kappa
fraternity. The group had brainstormed for a while about the best way
to crash the party—the attendance for this evening's event was
restricted to alumni and a few select guests, in contrast to the later
activities of the weekend-long party, which would allow a more general
attendance. The matter of attendance had led Cindy to suspect that the
DIK girls probably would not be present for those later events—or at
least less so—which had led Daniel to finally elect to go the direct
route, and he had sent Jackson to try to bribe someone for their
ticket. Whatever the cost, had been the motto. Jackson knew a brother
hurting for money, and had figured that brother might be the weak
link. He had been right.

"You'll need a costume," said Jackson.

  1. Ok, that was ... unexpected.

Beside from the fact that Radhu was quite the stereotype of the indian/nerd/hacker, I had grown to like him.
From the beginning, I had the feeling he was going to be paired off with Serena in the end, like another cliché; indian nerd and hot black girl.
Now? I am at loss ... nice touch. :)

Things are heating up fast and it doesn't look good for our decimated heroes.

  2. Good end for Rad all an all, shame he didn't picked up on sudden change, almost the same as with Dan loosing Jen, things just go bad when they could handle the situation much better :)

Feels almost like James Bond killing a thousand guys, saving the world, then slips, breaks leg, catches cold and dies)))

  3. Thanks, folks.

Things are indeed heating up fast.

And poor Radhu had a huge blind spot that was taken advantage of.

And I still got to fix #12 to lessen this sense that the situation could have been handled better there. I have not forgotten...
