New Story: The Adjusters #39

Here is April's installment of The Adjusters, “Charlie and the Convent of Oblivion (I)”, wherein we get a glimpse at what Jennifer Hansen wrote about her time since the infamous DIK-Bash.

As usual, comments welcome.

I'll also remind you that we have a Speculation Thread available for general discussion. (A thread which I read but do not comment on.)

The Adjusters #39 - Charlie and Convent of Oblivion (I)

Story by J. Dumas. First appeared in Flights of Erotic Fantasy
Magazine, Vol. 13, Nos. 7-8.

(1)

It was year four hundred and seventeen of the Renascence Era,
forty-one years since the Great Darkness War, one year past the end of
the reign of King Altobar the First, the Hero of the War, Bringer of
Peace. It was the first year of the reign of Queen Helena, daughter of
King Altobar the First, a reign that was destined to be unlike that of
her wise and just father. For Queen Helena ruled through fear and
repression, levying crushing taxes and imposing exhausting yield
requirements on peasants.

Rumors most vile floated throughout the kingdom about the Queen;
rumors that she was but a puppet in the hands of the real master of
the land, her cruel and ambitious Prime Chancellor; rumors that she
shared her bed with the Chancellor and allowed him the most perverse
liberties with her young body; rumors that the Court of Queen Helena
was one of vanishing morals and depraved indulgences.

The Royal Guard of late King Altobar the First, the elite knight troop
in charge of protecting the late king's person, was held to be
traitorous, accused of having orchestrated his assassination in a
cowardly fashion during a Blood Sacrifice Ceremony. The Royal Guard
was outlawed, and its knights were hunted throughout the kingdom, by
orders of Queen Helena herself. They were to be executed when found.

  2. So, Jen didn't followed Biff last orders to "find his friends"? Because she was unable to, consumed with constant lust? Or?

  3. this is an interesting chapter. far better than the previous charlie story.

jenn is on the run, consumed by her lust as Biff told Daniel would occur (during their confrontation at the spring amatuer show). Like how the car, and the woods were transposed into the horse, supplies and the description of getting things stolen. I'm assuming that meant losing/crashing the car.

Sounds like she was in a brothel at some point selling herself. But I'm not sure who these "nuns" will be. Are they a mental health institution or some sort of underground brothel that few know about?? Biff did mention she would end up in the "nut house". If jenn is unable to explain what happened- how could these "nuns" know about her problem (or at least the good ones).

gertrude sounds like a madam- she owns this ward/brothel and get proceeds from it. The question is who is Sarah?

@ Domein: From the description it doesn't sound like Jenn had much of a chance to get out to find his friends- mult episodes of lust.....

  4. *sigh*

This is a disappointment. We have another month of Charlie's story before we get back to the main event. While I get that the whole series is an ensemble piece with a lot of characters and plots, I always considered the Jenn plotline the main one. Certainly it's the one I'm the most invested it.

It's honestly upsetting that we have to have two months of this story-within-a-story. Trying to tease out how this fiction reflects on what is actually happening with Jenn. As it is, we won't get to actually read about Jenn herself until what... June? Maybe even July, since June's chapter is a prologue that may not even be about Jenn for all we know.

Disappointment. The Charlie story really should've been shorted down to just a single chapter. :(

    1. i get your frustration. i wish it was faster too, but this is chapter 39. which means the jenn/daniel story has been on going for at least 2 years.

  5. Although I agreed with several of the above posters, I am fully aware that the creative process can be slow. It can't be rushed even when you want it to be. As far as this installment is concerned, I wish it were longer but thats the way it goes. I am enjoying the series with an almost obsession like action. I want it into the next 10 chapters and I want it yesterday. But like I said, the creative process is at times slow and in this case it is a part time occupation. B3, please continue at your pace as we wait with baited breath for the next part of the story, and as always, If you need a proof reader or a foil, I am available.

  6. So, I noticed that on MC Stories, this story was submitted as as stand-alone story under the author of "J. Dumas"

Did you do that yourself, Bulgroz, or was this some fan's idea of a clever joke?

    1. All me, I'm afraid. I simply could not resist the meta-ness of it.

  7. Thanks for the comments feedback, folks. I realize that the "Charlie" chapters are not to everyone's liking, but still, I appreciate your patience.
