Erotica Podcasts

Writing Journal: About midway through The Adjusters #28. And while there's a lot of sex about, no sex scene per se yet. I have one in mind, but it may be a bit out there even for this crowd. We'll see. But it really wants to be written. And it might set the tone.

I used to have a pretty long commute. To make it bearable, and because if there's something I just cannot stomach it's überfrenzied morning-radio hosts, I started listening to podcasts. And then I ran across a bunch of erotica-flavored podcast series, and let me tell you, if there's anything that puts you in the mood to go into that office it's some smut to start the day. Here's a run down of my favorite podcast series, all short-fiction based.

Nobilis Erotica is a podcast series hosted by Nobilis Reed, and featuring short stories in a wide range of genres by Reed and sometimes by other guest writers. I admit to having stopped following this podcast, because for the most part the stories did not quite suit my style. But there were a few very hot stories here and there. My personal favorite is Jet Fighter.

Erotica à la Carte is a podcast series hosted by P. J. Ballantine. This one is interesting because it features erotic short stories (speculative fiction, so either science fiction, fantasy, or horror) written after the audience has voted on a particular list of ingredients to be used in the story. It works surprisingly well, and many of the stories are not only good smut but good short stories to boot. My personal favorites include Waiting for the Day: “A deal. A deadline. A king going to his death, but surprises still lie in store for both of the parties.” Another nice one, with mind-control elements, is The Happy Farm: “Rose is different—the aliens mind control doesn’t work on her. She is forced to watch as the Bath’il harvest her fellow humans, but when her sister is taken she must venture into the Factory.”

Finally, Open Source Sex is Violet Blue's podcast series. She's a sex educator, and a great advocate of sex positive, well, everything. Her podcasts range from educational podcasts to how-tos to excellent smut stories taken either from her anthologies or from authors she enjoys. Aside from having great taste, she also has a perfect reading voice. A recent favorite is Realtor Erotica!, by Carl Kennedy: “When you think of realtors and home buying, do you think of hot, dirty, spanky sex? Explicit erotica with strong BDSM themes and female submission; heterosexual focus.” An older excellent story is Central Registry, by Remittance Girl: “A pierced party girl decides that enough is enough when it comes to the Jehovah's Witnesses that keep interrupting her Saturday hangovers and she plots to ‘save’ them both—at the same time.” Note that Remittance Girl is a great author in her own right, and has a must-read blog where she discusses erotica and literature.

A couple of other popular podcast series have never grabbed my fancy, but you should try them out for yourself because there's nothing more personal than smut, as we all know. So head out to Mia on Top, or to Heat Flash.

Now, before you think me even more smut-obsessed than I really am, most of the podcasts I listen to are not sex-related. Among my go-to standys are Escape Pod (science-fiction stories), Fresh Air (interviews with cultural, scientific, and political figures), This American Life (delightful compendium of stories on a theme), and The Moth (true stories told live). All good stuff, and way too much to listen to...
