Weekend Random Links

Writing Journal: Put in a solid 1500 words into The Adjusters #52 yesterday, up to about 8500, and I'm still nowhere near the fun stuff. Writing is slow, folks, at least if you're me. (Though writing this short blurb made me think about #52 for a few seconds, and I've had what may well be a very intriguing thought... Let's see if it survives the night.) Oh, and by the way, next month's installment: “Intermezzo: Daniel Malcolm”

Throughout May and June, I'm asking for your input about the sort of kinks you might want to see in The Adjusters.

A bunch of random links to herald the coming of June.

John Kovalic nails the massive difference between good writing days and bad writing days.

Spying with Lara is a wonderful webcomics series I just discovered (and I'm late to the party, so this might well be old news to you all) and that is supremely well and done, and both sexy and funny.

Sexy times with the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders.

Oglaf might just have given me an idea for a short story.

Fascinating results of a survey by Bluebella (a lingerie company) about what men and women consider the perfect male and female body.

I know How I Met Your Mother is over, but here's an oldish article about what the author calls The Canonical Bisexuality of Lily Aldrin. (Peek around the site when you're done: The Toast is a fantastic little site with both fun and sad stories and will make you a better human being.)

Said Energizer is a videographer that does some pretty amazing work with beautiful sexy models. Here's a sample: For MEN.

A scanlation fumetto from The Groovy Age of Horror: Storie Viola 14 - I Tre Desideri (The Three Wishes).

If you're here only for the smut, here's today's selection. College Cathouse by DaviBlack: “Guy watches his girlfriend and her friend at a party.” And the girlfriend starts pimping her friend out, and the guy gets in on the action as well, and soon they have a nice little business going with lots of kinky sex. You're welcome.

Weekend Random Links (Superhero Edition)

Writing Journal: I've been stuck on The Adjusters #43 until this morning. I'm still somewhat stuck, but I think I see a way out. I'm having a lot of difficulty with the pacing. I don't want Book IV to be a sprawling 20 installments saga like Book II, but I also want to make sure I give it the room it needs to breathe. In comparison, Book III was pretty straightforward to set up and execute.

Some late weekend random links, with a superhero theme—again, not that I'm particularly reading comics anymore, at least not superhero comics, short of keeping up with the world via Scans_Daily, but part of me still has affection for those crazy everything-remains-the-same-yet-changes-but-without-changing universes. (And yeah, I still have an idea for a DC-based smut story, but it's pretty low on the priority list.)

This is old, but Charlie Jane Anders talks about the history of superhero porn. (And I guess that while we're at it, we can look at modern superhero porn...)

It's not porn, but Alter Egos is a pretty good indie superhero comedy flick, and it has this one scene that really messes with my head.

Let's start slowly with the classics. Here's a stupefyingly innuendo-filled song by the Birds of Prey from Batman: The Brave and the Bold. (Warning: the song tends to stick in your head.)

You may or may not have heard about the latest Spiderman arc in the regular universe, the one about Superior Spiderman, but these scans where the new Superior Spider-man makes a move on MJ, my favorite redhead, are delightfully creepy.

A bit less mainstream, but still within the universe, there's Jessica Jones. Here's the last arc of the Alias series, where we meet the Purple Man, a villain with mind-control powers that does pretty much exactly what we would expect a villain to do...

I wanted to leave you with some good superhero smut, but I seem to have difficulty finding some that I have not already posted. Still, we have two about Supergirl (just don't ask me which incarnation): Supergirl Becomes Superslut, by LisaAnn, and Supergirl Fallen, by Citizen Bane. Both stories are about Supergirl taken down a notch, as you might expect given the titles. They're not great stories, but they're better than the crud that usually passes for superhero smut.

(Belated) Weekend Random Links

Writing Journal: Midway through writing The Adjusters #42. And it's a weird experience. It really wants to be written first-person present-tense. So that's how I'm going with it. It'll need a lot of work on the backend, seeing as it's all over the place right now. One reason for that is that I'm still fleshing out the details of Book IV. I mean, I know where the story starts and where the story ends and where it fits in the larger context, but the details and especially the characters that appear in it remain to be figured out. I've got a large file into which I brainstorm about Book IV, and I think I'll take a snapshot of it so that when Book IV is all posted I can show you the file if you're curious and want to peruse it.

Some random links to keep you all distracted.

Sexy lingerie from the 80s from Silver Rose and from Victoria's Secret. I'm happy to report we survived the 80s.

Two scanlation fumetti from The Groovy Age of Horror: Storie Blu 117 - Violenze Mostruose (Monstrous Violence) and La Schiava 3 - L'Artiglio del Padrone (The Master's Claw)

Fascinating read if you're into porn and statistics: A study of 10,000 porn stars and their careers.

Whether you're into pony girls or not, have a look at this photo set. It's exceedingly pretty.

There is a story here. I just know there is. And we even have the title: Stuffed and Mounted.

A very sexy clip: Agent Provocateur Fall/Win 2012 with Mónica Cruz (Penelope Cruz's sister).

Less sexy (oddly enough) but funnier, we have some ads for a porn channel.

I'll leave you with a rather sweet mind-control story, Gifted Grifter, by DrSqueaky: “Origin of the man who seduces by reading minds.” A nice variation on the guy-gets-mind-control-powers trope, partly because he can only read minds, not affect them. The subplot with Julie is particularly nice, and hot to boot.

Weekend Random Links

Writing Journal: Still trying my best to finish the first scene of The Adjusters #35. Slow going.

A bunch of random links to celebrate the first week of September.

Shalom Auslander (an author I quite enjoy, by the way—loved his Foreskin's Lament) wrote an interesting essay on the interaction between enjoying really hardcore pornography and one's sense of morality. Favorite quote: “Like eating chocolate made from babies.”

I refuse to comment on Fifty Shades of Grey. But I can appreciate this Fifty Shades (Porn) Generator. Who needs smut writers anymore? (Via Tiny Nibbles)

A class of stories I enjoy, as anyone that reads this blog knows, is blackmail-themed stories, where sex is obtained as a result of threats or blackmail. Now, I enjoy that as fantasy. Once it crosses into real life, it's another matter altogether. I think it's a good thing, as readers of the genre, to make sure that we're not unsensitized to how terrible it is when this sort of thing happens for real. Two stories about this came out in the last six months. Not cool.

Vaguely related, and again on the topic of appreciation of nonconsensual fantasy as compared to real life, here's a primer on creepiness, so you can avoid being creepy. Creepy in a wholly different way is the relationship between Pickup Artist Techniques and Sexual Assault.

Away from serious somewhat depressing topics, here's an interesting trailer for a documentary on men seeking artificial companions, The Mechanical Bride.

Short kinky true stories from Fleshbot: Ending at the Beginning, and My Ass Is A Good Storage Space For Jizz.

Here's a sweet little Tumblr where people submit short filthy sex secrets. Some are pretty hot. Some really get the ol' imagination going.

I'll leave you with a story. From Big Jake we have The Outlaw's Revenge: “A teenage girl's testimony sends a gunslinger to prison. After four years without a woman in that West Texas hell-hole, he breaks out with one thought on his mind -- to even the score with the girl who sent him up. And that girl is now nineteen, beautiful, blonde and tan, and she's got more curves than the Rio Grande. And she's alone on her daddy's ranch." Sex, domination, torture—the trifecta. And an actual plot and well-developed characters. And hot sex, of course.

Weekend Random Links

Writing Journal: Still hacking on The Adjusters #34. Nothing special to report. It looks like Book III will be about six installments.

Interesting article by Miss Maggie Mayhem, complete with an intriguing approach to understanding role play (including violent role play) in porn, and I will venture, smut of the kind that I write. (Via ErosBlog)

Not recent, but still fascinating to me: a map to fetishes.

Also not particularly recent, but a nice article about what we mean by rape culture, in the context of the Hitman Absolution video game trailer.

Two new English scanlations from The Groovy Age of Horror of Italian fumetti: Dimensione Zero (Dimension Zero) and Il Campione Nero (The Black Champion). Sick, sick, sick, the way we love them!

Not a fumetti, but might as well—two pages from a story where nazis behave the way we expect them to.

I'm a huge fan of the webcomics Oglaf. This one made me spill my drink (pun almost intended).

The story I'll leave you with today is in the same vein as the one from last Wednesday, so much so that I tend to conflate them in my head—which makes it hard to find them when I look for them. The story is Jack and Jake, by Rhett Dreams: “Jack and Jake are twin teenage brothers that are as horny as hell. This story starts when they catch their sister doing something that could really get her in trouble and blackmail her into having sex with them. The story doesn't stop there, they end up bringing friends and family into their sexual adventures.” A fun happy story with lots of excellent scenes, and the sex is exactly the way I like it when the mood is right: hot, with just the right twist of kink and domination.

Weekend Random Links

Writing Journal: Still writing, and still revising. I should be ready to start The Adjusters #32—the first installment of Book III—next week. Looking forward to it. It takes place a few months after the events of Book II.

The good folks at The Groovy Age of Horror provide us with another translation of an Italian fumetto, Playcolt #11: A Disneyland Ride La Morte (Death Laughs in Disneyland).

The Onion telling us the real truth about why dating ruins friendships.

More humor, this time from Cracked, and this time with an actual lesson to be learned about how modern men are trained to hate women.

I mentioned at some point in the past that Kayden Kross is my porn crush. She still is. And now we have a conversation between her and author Adam Levin in McSweeney's. (There's a second part too.)

It's been a while I haven't pointed you to some classic comics. Today, it's Doctor Doom (Fantastic Four, The Avengers) claiming his right to exercise his Droit du Seigneur. That's one parenthetical story I'd love to see.

I leave you with an ongoing essentially blackmail story by The Thinking Horndog, The Gambling Debt: “Tony Tomaselli owes his bookie a large amount of money—and Crazy Joe Scalese isn't one to sit on his hands and wait for his debtors to show up with cash! Leg-breaking tends to be counter-productive, so Crazy Joe implements an experimental plan that involves not only Tony, but his wife Gina and their two children!” Your good ol' bookie-wants-his-dough-but-will-take-the-wife setup with an interesting development. Have a read, The Thinking Horndog knows how to write.

Weekend Random Links

Writing Journal: Nothing much to report. Writing away. The Adjusters #26 seems to have been well received, which of course pleases me to no end. Thanks for reading, folks, and for letting me know how you feel.

I don't remember exactly when I first heard the song A Lap Dance Is So Much Better When The Stripper Is Crying by Bloodhound Gang, but it vies for the category of so bad it's good. I mean, come on! You have to at least applaud the utter bad taste of it all...

I learned a new term last week, via Sociological Images: hegemonic masculinity. That's where even though we live in a patriarchy with all the fun that that particular system entails, you are still screwed if you're not just the right kind of male.

The good folks at The Groovy Age of Horror provide us with another translation of an Italian fumetto, Terror Blue #131: Betty Boswell.

An interesting article by David Szalay discussing sexual vocabulary in (I believe) mainstream fiction. Similar problems occur in smut fiction, of course.

Forget his ability on the court—you know Jeremy Lin's the real thing when he shows up in porn.

That's all I got for this week. Rather slim pickings, I know. I'll leave you with a story I ran across at BDSM Library, Sanjna’s Mistake by Exbiidelhi2012: “An accountant pays for her mistake, becomes a plaything for any who wants.” A rather standard blackmail story, with some hot moments and some interesting bits here and there. I like the multiplication of independent people taking advantage of her ordeal. Worth a look if that's your kind of thing. And it looks like it's ongoing.

UPDATE: A commenter points out that this story by Exbiidelhi2012 is in fact plagiarized word for word (aside from changing the name of the protagonist) from a story by GrantLee called Julie's Mistake. Go read that one instead, which has the added benefit of being—as far as I can tell—complete.

Weekend Random Links

Writing Journal: While I was away last weekend, I was whacked on the head by the Story Fairy, who finally gave me the idea I needed to outline Book III of The Adjusters. This is great, because I have been struggling to figure out how to bridge the gap between Book II (which is almost done) and Book IV (for which I already know the story). And no, I couldn't just jump into the arc that is to be Book IV directly after Book II. That would be too abrupt.

The Paris Review has an interesting essay about the Naughty Librarian trope.

Not a recent story, but still worth putting out there. It's about plagiarism at Amazon, and other online self-published ebooks retailers, for erotica. I don't think this has hit me yet. I wonder if I should feel slighted...

Darkness, a hilarious short comic about a roommate with “brooding seductive superpowers” from Boulet (via IO9).

A NSFW funny webcomic, Blooming Faeries.

Don't you want to know what the story behind that first picture on top is?

Interesting essay by Jim C. Hines on writing about rape. Unsure how this applies to mind-control smut, though...

I love old Italian fumetti. They are just so... out there! The Groovy Age of Horror gives us a translation of one that's particularly mindfucking. I mean, really.

A documentary about porn stars that looks like it's actually interesting.

Speaking of porn, here's an interesting article on James Deen, a male porn star, and female fans of the genre.

I did not know you could break your dick. Ouch.

This gives new meaning to the Sexy Legal Assistant trope.

I'm not particularly surprised at the reaction, but still, come on folks, it's perfectly okay to blow other people to Kingdom Come with Extreme Prejudice in video games, but a little slavery play is out?

I'm not leaving you without a story. This is an oldie, but a sweetie, Disturbing Coincidence's Failed Experiment: “A college student takes place in an experiment that changes his brain. He uses his newfound abilities to change his life... one beauty at a time." Incomplete, but what is there is excellent. And the introduction of Shelley is just brilliant. The way she submits to get what she wants, it adds a whole new level of awesome to this story.

Weekend Random Links

Writing Journal: Whoopee doo! Finished the first draft of The Adjusters #29 this week, at about 15000 words. It's rough and will need much work, particularly with pacing, but it more or less captures what was in my head, which makes me glad. Now onto #30, the epilogue of Book II, and in particular a scene I've been looking forward to writing for several months now.

A few weeks late, but take a look at IO9's look back at the year 2011 in NSFW.

I'd have loved to be a fly during the meeting of the ad execs that thought up this breast cancer prevention campaign. (Via Violet Blue.)

Talking about comics, you may want to check out Prime Mover's illustrated stories with strong mind-control themes.

And while we're talking free erotic 3D comics, check out RKShooter's Milly series, which is not about mind control, but partly about submission, and partly about just plain old kinky sex.

I've talked about Undum before, a Javascript-based system for writing hypertext fiction. Here's Hypedyn, a Java-based system for doing something similar. I still prefer the look of Undum, though.

I'm too young to remember vintage men's mags, but I have to admit that these pages are simply outstanding—and you gotta love the loglines!

Maria Ozawa in a Japanese remake of Species? You better believe it. Looks bad enough to be good.

The best lingerie ad in the world?

The real reason for the Fall of the Roman Empire, according to Oglaf.

Closing with the story of the week, a nicely written dark tale of abduction and mind control by VoiceOfUnreason called Becoming Marie: “Kidnapped, and... changed.” How's that for a short and sweet description? Looking forward to many more chapters. (Via JN on MCForum.)

Weekend Random Links

Writer's Journal: Still hacking the sex scene in The Adjusters #27. Serena's being Serena, and will keep me busy until the end of the week at least.

Kayden Kross has some interesting things to say about degradation.

Somewhat related, but from the other end of the scale, here's an oldish post asking some relevant questions about extreme porn. Honestly, I do not quite know how to feel about this topic. On the one hand, I am the first one to recognize the make-believe aspect of porn, and that it is fantasy and not real. On the other hand, it is rather silly to deny the cultural and sociological impact of more and more extreme forms of pornography. The discussion becomes even more interesting once we turn to written smut.

It's been a while I haven't talked about Spider-Man. And then there's a page like this one that reminds me why MJ is one of my favorite comics book characters, despite the weathervane characterizations (and the 80s hairdo).

I found this dating advice for men funny with its (I sincerely hope) tongue-in-cheek bipolar classification of dating material: Good Girls versus Bad Girls. If every woman fit nicely into one of these categories, life would be so much simpler! I think the motto is: boys, don't turn to men mags for dating advice. Mutadis mutandis for girls, of course. The question of where to go for actually useful advice shall be left for the reader to answer.

Alan Moore is of course right about sex scenes (I have to say that, the man is frightening, as well as an incredible writer), but I fear that sometimes titillation gets a rather short shrift.

Speaking of writing, this exhaustive compendium of common errors in English is exceedingly useful. Have a look if you write at all.

I came across the following picture on a Tumblr site a couple of months ago, and thought it was fascinating. Turns out it's A Roman Slave Market by Jean-Léon Gérôme, a 19th-century French painter, allegedly held at the Baltimore Walters Art Museum. The man has done some nice work. And some of the themes seem recurring, if the following painting is any indication. I love talented painters with a naughty streak.

I'll leave you with a new ongoing blackmail story on Storiesonline, by Engineer5, called Nicole: “Nicole is young, beautiful, intelligent and confident. She has a scholarship and a bright future. When her sister gets sick and she needs money to pay for her bills, Nicole gets help from a rich geek kid. But soon she is at his mercy and she has to do things she hates...” Both quick and slow moving (you'll see what I mean when you read it), but a promising premise, and some nice scenes to wet our collective appetite.

A Slight Delay

I am sad to have to report that The Adjusters #17 is going to be a few days late. I'm struggling with one of the scenes, and I'd rather take a day or two to get it right than publish something I'm unhappy with. I humbly beg your collective forgiveness.

Here are a few things to keep you distracted in the meantime.

First off, remember that poll about who you'd see playing the characters in The Adjusters? Some great suggestions in the comments. Here's another one: how's Kristin Cavallari for Cindy?

Menage a 3 is a cute little "adult" webcomic about "the lives of comic book geek, Gary and his way-sexier-than-he-is roommates in their Montreal tight-as-a-sandwich apartment." Funny and sexy.

Finally, two interesting stories recently posted on the EMCSA. Obnoxious, by Cindy Silver Eyes: "Cindy can’t stand Brian. Nonetheless, she finds herself unable to disobey him," a very short tale of humiliation, and Twenty Days of the Device, by Corvus Kahn: "John finds a strange device in his bag after encountering a man on a train. What does it do? How will he handle it? Can he overcome his own personal demons? Can he resist the dark lure of total power?" That one is much longer, and has some very nice moments. Although it does suffer from the standard harem-stories problems, it has an actual ending, which alleviates much.

Saturday Random Links

I am not a particularly avid fan of mainstream American XXX adult entertainment, but a friend of mine is a big fan of Kayden Kross, and I have to admit that the girl is easy on the eye. And she seems to play the naughty girlfriend/wife very well -- at least in Love and Marriage, which is the one movie I've seen of her.

So if not mainstream American XXX adult entertainment, what am I a big fan of? Glad you asked. I like Mario Salieri's work, although perhaps more in the 1990s than recently. Eros & Thanatos is one of my favorites. And it's easy to see why: blackmail, coercion, beautiful women...

I follow a bunch of blogs about writing. On the comic side, I'm partial to How To Write Badly Well, which focuses on what not to do. Some of them hit a little bit too close to home, such as Solve Mysteries by Introducing More Mysteries.

This is a clever advertisement gimmick...

I believe everyone should have a basic grasp of feminist theory, if only because it provides for a refreshing alternative to the standard (at least in the West) societal discourse. Here is a required primer on rape culture. You may agree, you may disagree, but at the very least you have to be aware of the discussion. Then you can take that discussion and apply it to standard media images, such as this advertising campaign, or even the one in the previous bullet point. Fascinating stuff. Of course, one may ask how I can reconcile my writing coercive smut and my appreciation of feminist theory. The answer is left as an exercise to the reader. (Hint: it has little to do with sex.)

On a much lighter note, the following review of the current Batman: Odyssey series by Neal Adams is hilarious, and also makes me want to actually read the series. It sounds demented.

Again, no point leaving you without smut to read. I reacquainted myself with an old favorite of mine this week, EngineX's mind-control story Kirsty and the Slob: "Kirsty takes an instinctive dislike to an unpleasant stranger on the train, but soon finds herself compelled to do exactly as he says. For his own part the stranger finds Kirsty a very attractive proposition and is soon planning for her long term future. The plans have little to do with the young woman's welfare and everything to do with his own satisfaction..." The stereotype of the disgusting controller, pushed to its limit.

Saturday Random Links

Nothing much to report this week, so let me dump some random smutty links.

I've fixed the links to my stories in the tab above, including adding a tab for The Adjusters, which was sorely missing.

The poll for who you could see playing the characters in The Adjusters is still ongoing, with a couple of nice candidates. Feel free to give your 2 cents/pennies/eurocents/centavos in the comments there.

I came across the paintings of Rob Hefferan. They are truly beautiful.

In case you don't know it, the webcomic OGLAF is sexy, quirky, and sometimes even funny. Start at the beginning with Cumsprite, and watch the evening disappear.

I really like tights usually, but these leg-bones tights may just be jumping the shark. I fear that calling them sexy would say disturbing things about my personality.

I wouldn't want to leave you without reading material. I've been given a pointer to the following classic by W. L. Telford called Worlds Apart: "Business took him to Asia. His wife stayed home. And was lost. More than either of them could ever have imagined." A slightly disturbing story of submission. I've halfway through it, and I'm finding myself liking it. Part of the reason why this is on the radar right now is that the author has started posting chapters of a sequel of a sort, Meat: " woman of rare beauty and intelligence is voluntarily sold into slavery."

A question for you: any sexy webcomics I should know about? I know there are a few out there, but I've never really kept track of them. Pointers in the comments welcome.
