A day late, but here is January's episode of The Adjusters, “The Spring Amateur Show”, wherein we realize that Daniel and Jackson may have more in common than they originally thought.
As usual, comments welcome.
I'll also remind you that we have a Speculation Thread available for discussion. (A thread which I read but do not comment on.)
The Adjusters #24 - The Spring Amateur Show
"Now, be honest—is there something going on between you two?"
Serena was staring straight at Daniel, the look on her face the one he
called her inquisitor look. Beside him, Cindy giggled. Serena managed
to keep a stern expression for several seconds before breaking into a
grin herself. Daniel shook his head. Women, he thought.
"It's complicated," he said, finally.
"He's right—it actually is," added Cindy.
Serena looked from one to the other and back, waiting for them to add
more details, but neither provided any. "Fine," she said. "Be like
that. But you watch out for him," she told Cindy. "He's a handful."
Turning to Daniel, she softened somewhat. "Seriously, I'm glad you're
moving on, Daniel. I know it was hard to lose Jenn like that, but I'm
a firm believer in straightening up and punching life in the balls,
you know?"
Daniel did not respond. He had known Serena a long time now, and she
had always treated personal relationships as entirely malleable. And
romantic relationships, well, they were not something to get invested
in too deeply. She had had a string of boyfriends over the years, none
of which her friends ever bothered to learn the name of, since she
would move on faster than you would sneeze in a black pepper
factory. She and Daniel had not really talked about what had happened
with Jenn, aside from that violent fight months earlier when Daniel
had first received the DVD that Biff sent. One reason for this lack of
conversation was that Serena had been difficult to get a hold of. And
given what Daniel had learned from Cindy—that Serena was essentially
a toy for use by the Delta Iota Kappa brothers—well, that went a long
way towards explaining her absences. Daniel stared at his friend,
trying to imagine her with those frat boys that she always said she
disliked so much.

Next month, episode 25: “Doctor Cargyle”.
Man, this was a pain in the ass to edit! I'll tell you more once I recover. And there are undoubtedly some rough spots left—if not whole paragraphs that I simply forgot to cut/move/correct! Too tired to double-check, though. Catch you around the corner, folks...
ReplyDeleteMan what a cliff hanger in the end, I almost skipped half of the sex scenes to see how this would end :)
ReplyDeletePlease please let us see this "Jen away from Beff" trigger in action some time, would totally love it...
Interesting beginning with Cindy telling a tale (kinda like Jenn used to do)-not sure if that was on purpose though. Like Daniel's thoughts on can he trust her and her reply and how Cindy tried to figure out what he liked.....
ReplyDeleteDainel's gut is usually right on, but I don't know if he really wants to see those videos that Biff sent (after all Jenn already told him what goes on).
On the political front: british imperialism vs american intervention.....interesting commentary.
Jennie Exx (nice play on ex-fiance, sex, take your pick). Maybe Biff should've told Daniel to go to the spirited flesh rather than Dikbash in chapter 22?
Why did Jenn look at Biff prior to the Kyra addition to her show? Was she asking for instructions? The scene with Kyra and Jenn was hot.
Not surprised as Jackson's attitude towards Biff. Guess Biff wants to bully both of them. He must've told Kyra to follow commands from Jenn (similar to Kevin and Serena in the last episode)
Not sure why Daniel was looking for reticence form Jenn- after all he knows she does what Biff wants.
George Taylor is a lucky guy- he won Marjorie too....and saw Jenn orgasm right in front of him
Clearly a decent cliffhanger- this is gonna cause Jackson to be on Daniel's side.
Biff acts like he has some sort of protection- really would him breaking Daniel's leg go unnoticed? Agree with Domein about Jen being away from Biff would be hot- though did he really put that trigger in? And I'm sure with the right personal even that could be reversible.
Looks like Daniel did some growing up form chapters 22 to 24 (he didn't react to the taunt) even after Biff told him jenn still loves him and knows what is going on.
Cindy attempt to get both of them back was valiant, but clearly was not going to work and even brought up Kevin.
What will Kevin think- become anti-Jackson and anti-Daniel or try to control Biff more...clearly Biff is out of control right now.
The pressure is increasing on everyone- our main character and his current friends (daniel, cindy, jackson) vs Biff and friends (mainly biff and his gang). The question is where will the good doctor, shawbank and kevin stand in all this....questions questions....

ReplyDeleteJust did a quick read through and loved it. One of my first thoughts was what, if anything, is Kevin going to do with Biff.
Biff’s need to humiliate is bringing the fraternity unwanted publicity. Also, driving Jackson into Daniel’s camp was not a smart move. Jackson knows how to trigger the girls and has a lot of inside information. Not to mention he can verify a lot of what Cindy says and give more details. His loyalty to the frat is now broken. All Daniel would have to point out is the Kevin and Biff are related and that Kevin has done little to stop Biff. That it was his fellow frat brothers that beat him up. Can Jackson really trust the frat? Also, is Biff now going to do or has he done to Kyra what he did to Jenn? After this performance, it is not like Kyra can go back to being inactive. Too many people have seen her and would be talking about it for her to be able to ignore it or explain it away. It would be in Biff’s nature to plant some kind of time bomb in Jenn to insure she is not kidnapped away from him. Kevin must do something because the bash is right around the corner and Biff’s actions will cause and has caused unwanted attention. If I were advising Kevin, I would suggest that Biff meets with an accident.
Also, I would think the company (the doctor’s employers) would start to take a more active interest in what is going on. If they are aware of the FBI hanging around, they would be keen on containing the damage being done. Not to mention the FBI should be making an appearance again. With Jackson on Daniel’s side, he can provide the FBI with a lot of information.
Have we been given a hint that the hold that the frat has on Serena may have a glitch? That her reporter instincts may win out or emerge and let her escape her conditioning.
I may have more thoughts once I read it through again at a slower pace.
@ danny 123: interesting thoughts. agree that biff is out of control and kevin needs to do something, but not sure that will occur they way its going since Biff is the main antagonist.
ReplyDeleteWould def be hot if he did to to Kyra also. He is def drawing unwanted attention.
Even though in my earlier post (under met19) I doubted he could do this, after thinking on it he probably could- after all he made Jenn go by Jennie just by a command. He might not know how to program them with drugs/stimulation, but I think he understands far more about the commands than anyone outside of the Doctor currently. I think Kevin underestimates him and until chapter 15/16 so did Daniel.
While the FBI or some agency is hunting the doctor, not sure they will make a huge difference in the current arc. Earlier in an email to Bt3, I compared out main protagonist (daniel) to Luke from ESB- as in he needs to grow up to defeat his enemies/win. Here in this episode you see soem growth- he doesn't get beat up like Jackson and is playing the game rather than reacting.
Thanks the feedback, folks. Glad you liked the episode. Really didn't know how this one would fly. Now for a few responses...
ReplyDelete@Domein — The "Jenn away from Beff" trigger in action, huh? Glad to see I'm not the only one with a dark streak... I'll see what I can do...
@met19 — lots of good points. Re: politics, not my doing—an actual essay topic of a friend of mine a few years back. As to why Daniel was looking for reticence from Jenn, he's still hoping, somehow, that she's not really wanting to do this. And he's right, as he learns eventually. I wonder if he's happy about it... Glad you picked up on George Taylor's good fortune. And as far as growing up, Daniel's learning the score from Cindy helped a lot, I think.
@danny123 — lots of good points here too. We'll see how much of it plays out in coming episodes. And the programming for Kyra does not allows for long term activations, like most DIK girls.
^^^ Yep, that what I thought, it was mentioned before that Jen has unique adjustment, just like the one Marjorie had.
ReplyDeletetoo bad that kyra can't join Jenn in long term activation....her paying for her tatoo or piercing with her submissiveness would be hot.
ReplyDeletethat is a good essay topic.
I'll join Domein wishing for Jenn away from Biff trigger to be seen.....
@Domein — exactly. But:
ReplyDelete@met — don't give up hope re: Kyra.
And I'm warming up myself to seeing what the "Jenn away from Biff" trigger would look like when activated...
All right, I want you to know that this discussion has really helped me nail a particular plot point that was bothering me regarding something that happens after DIK-Bash. Thanks everyone!
ReplyDeletebt3: such a tease of a comment....lol
ReplyDeletecould be interpreted any way: nympho jenn, kyra paying for a tat or long term activation, kevin or biff causing trouble?
so many possibilities and so far in the future.....
seriously now: glad it helped.
I sorta promised you all a quick statement about why #24 was such a pain to edit. That's because I discovered much to my dismay that the original first scene of #24 I had essentially and unwittingly rewritten in #23 (#24 was written before #23, because I had not realized I needed a #23 until later) so I needed to completely rewrite that. And then later on in the Spirited Flesh scene, I had Jenn come out before Kyra, and that didn't work quite so well. So that needed rewriting too...
