Games, and an Update on The Adjusters #54

Writing Journal: Editing The Adjusters #54. It should come out in a few days, after I've let it rest a day or two. It was harder to write than #53, but hopefully that shouldn't show too much. Making good progress on #55 as well, but that one flows much more easily. Onward!

There was a comment a few weeks ago on one of our threads that probably would benefit from some more general distribution. The comment announced a new “project” called SelectaCorp. It's not quite a game, but rather a series of interactive slide decks that introduce you to a company that enslaves girls for profit. Go check it out—there are some exceedingly interesting ideas there, and depending on the way your brain works, it can be pretty hot. (I'm on the fence personally: I love the interactivity, but the gaming aspect does not have enough of a storyline to grab me as much as I would have liked.) The project is hosted on Tumblr, so it pays to read it from the end back. Anonymous commenter: thanks for the link.

While we're on the topic of interactive games, I've renewed my on-and-off love affair with Lesson of Passion. Their business is coming up with high-quality interactive sex games, in Flash. Part of the renewal of interest on my part is that their high-flying games have all gotten extensions in the past months: Living with Britney, Living with Temptation, and my personal favorite, Eleanor.

I'll leave you with a story I ran across on Lush Stories. It's The Double Date that Didn't End, by KennethPierce: “Dance with the one that brung ya. Or don't.” The description does not do it justice. Basically, it's the story of a double date where the couples realize that they really want to be with each other's date, and they swap, and then they discover, that well, they still feel something for their original dates. Hot sexiness ensues. And it seems to be ongoing. Highly recommended.

  1. Selecta Corp is interesting. There's a neat AR game feel to it, with the way you need to search around the tumblr to access to files, and then the passwords...

Unfortunately though, there's some technical issues. The oldest links seem to have been removed now. And Mega is being tempermental, not allowing downloads. This means that jumping through all these extra hoops to get to the content is not worth the effort, even with the increased immersion.

    1. Yeah. I basically agree. And the increased immersion was good, but I still prefer a strong narrative thread. (The Arcana 15 Stage gives me some hope that that game model could indeed support an interesting narrative.)

  2. As a reader I struggle with a 50+ chapter backstory. Is there a list of Jenn's 'standing orders' somewhere? I'm asking because I've lost count of the number of compulsions on Jenn. Does Jennifer still feel arousal when demeaned? Does Jennifer still have to go to Cleveland? Is Jennifer still programmed not to come until Biff allows her to? Command after command is added, but not removed. How about 'resetting' Jenn? Have Jenn recite what her 'standing orders' are so we know where things stand? And you could use Jennifer Hansen's character chart to keep track of current commands, to make sure there are no conflicts.

And a scene request: Adjustment as seen from a feminine POV.

    1. I like the idea of resetting Jenn. If you remember Jennie Biff's sex toy is programmed with all those complusions, Jennifer is not. Thanks to the drugs the're giving her at Craven Institute Jennifer is able to keep Jennie under control

    2. (Full disclosure: I also sometimes struggle with the 50+ chapters backstory.)

Roughly speaking: Jenn has two sets of "standing orders" as you describe them: the one that were put in originally, when Biff programmed her, and then the orders he added in later because he also told her to obey whatever he asked her to do. (I don't recall the exact phrasing.) The drugs at the institute could help her control the second set of compulsions.

Though now, of course, Jenn is back to her medically-induced coma, and who knows what's going to happen when she wakes up...

But to your actual worry: how to deal with Jenn and her accumulations of compulsions and help the reader through them? Way ahead of you for once: it's on the slate for one the installments in Book V.

Adjustment as seen from a feminine POV: do you mean from the POV of one of the adjusted women, or from the POV of a woman that might be interested in doing some adjusting?
